On the way home from taking the recycling I noticed an odd looking piece of hardware being installed on the corner behind my apartment complex. Now I am not completely sure that this is a VRAD installation for ATT’s Uverse, but I highly suspect that it is. Here’s why: Read the rest of this entry »

I have never blogged about my warcraft playing…so here is the first. I am one step away from acquiring my warlock’s epic mount, called a Dreadsteed. This type of mount is special because it not only increases the speed at which you can move through the area but it also looks just sick. (See the wiki article.) Having a Dreadsteed means that you have gone through the entire quest sequence that allows you to summon the beast. The quest chain is long, arduous, and costs an arse ton of gold. This is a stark contrast to other epic mounts in the game, which are simply purchased; no questing, dungeons, or summoning circles are directly involved.
So for the final step, I have to perform the summoning ritual and have a 5 man group help me complete the quest. After that, its full speed ahead to level 70.

Not sure how many care about this but gmail is now offering IMAP for your gmail account. This rawks because IMAP allows you to mirror whats in your Gmail. Its the only reason I haven’t used Apple Mail with Gmail yet. But now finally, 5 days after the announcement, I can IMAP into Gmail. Thanks google. Do no evil.
The only problem is…I have never moved anything out of the inbox. (See graphic.)

Why you ask?
No 3G. Its an EDGE only phone, which means that while you will have full browser functionality, it will be slower than what is currently available in other phones.
No support for flash.
Its a first generation product. You never know what is going to happen.
Its a bit pricey.
Too much attention surrounding the product…which means low availability and long lines. Not really into fighting for stuff like this. I like to let the game come to me.
Sure the iPhone is going to be a cool product but there is just too much hype and “coolness” surrounding it. There will be a majority of people who will buy an iPhone simply to have an iPhone. They will probably have no clue of it capabilities. I am all about Apple and what they do to make peoples’ lives easier, but this whole thing kinda feels like your favorite band, who you’ve known about since its inception, is selling out and going big time. You just kinda get this underwhelmed feeling. Maybe because I know there are much better things that Apple offers besides the iPhone.
Instead, I went a different route and purchased an unlocked/unbranded Nokia e50. Its about 1/2 the price and does a little more than the iPhone does, at least from what I’ve read.

To all those working in retail, when you are interacting with a customer, don’t just pretend to listen to your customers. Actually listening, processing what the customer says, and generating a non-scripted response goes a LONG way. When all you can come up with is something your manager told you to say or the generic corporate line, and you spout it verbatim, you just upset me. I want to feel special and not like your other customers.
This especially goes out to the service rep at the Cingular/ATT store in Rice Village named Sonny. Stop watching the Cubs game when you are supposed to be helping customers.

“Yeah, I just gotta take my MCAT’s…”
If you have a hard time pronouncing the name of the test you are taking, you might want to reconsider being a doctor as a career path. Unless that is of course you actually plan on taking more than one MCAT.
Same thing with the SAT. Its not “your SAT’s.” Its an SAT test.

The image you see below is a screen shot of my inbox from the other day. The messages shown contained nothing in the body of the message, only the attachments. Most were ppt or doc files, a couple were large gifs.
For those new to composing email, the subject line should pertain to the topic of the email you are sending. Additionally, most of what you intend to convey should be put in what is called the body of the message. NOT IN AN ATTACHMENT.

Save my inbox the 5MB of your bloated powerpoint presentation that in the end had NOTHING to do with me.
Lastly, before you click the send button and the message is distributed to EVERYONE at our school, make use of the BCC field so that other email beginners cannot reply to all.
Email bully out.

Within the past month I have sold my MacBook. Listed it on Craigslist both here in Houston and in Austin. Probably not surprising that I got greater quantity and quality responses from Austin. I found that most of the people I dealt with who knew little to nothing of Macs wanted less then I was willing to sell for. The gentleman in Austin who finally bought it was very open and honest about the transaction, as was I. We settled on a price of $1100. I met him at the Starbucks on 45th and Guadalupe and we setup his profile and lots of apps. He was very pleased.

Rear View of the Mac Mini Setup
The next phase of the MacBook sale was retrieving my Mac Mini from Rice and getting it up and running. The setup was rather easy. Having the little side desk space already available made a nice spot to set it up. All the cabling ran behind the desk and right to the mini. I also brought home the 250GB lacie hard drive from Rice and daisy chained it with my 500GB maxtor. Overall the experience has been little different from the macbook, aside from the fact that I can’t take it with me everyday.
Moreover, I find it very comforting that I don’t have to worry about the computer getting too hot with the lid closed. All of this combined with the optical drive update to give the system dual layer burning makes the newness even sweeter. Does this mean I prefer a desktop over a laptop? Maybe.
